Ally Laney Orton-Konkel, 26, of Cortez, Colorado, passed away on April 25, 2026.
Ally was born to Jana Laney and Joe Orton, and was a beloved daughter, wife to Matthew Konkel, and sister to Josh Orton. She graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School and also attended Dolores Elementary and Dolores High School, going on to build a meaningful career as an Account Executive with Hutton Broadcasting.
Ally was deeply committed to her community and proudly served as President of the Board for the Cortez Chamber of Commerce. She brought passion, drive, and heart to everything she did, giving her all to her work, her leadership, and the people around her.
She had a creative spirit and found joy in taking photographs and transforming them into paintings. Ally and Matthew had a love story like no other, they were devoted to each other. Ally treasured time spent fishing and hiking with her dad and taking trips to Grand Junction with her mom. She also adored her beloved cats—Sagwa, Cashew, and Missy—who were a constant source of comfort and companionship.
Ally was preceded in death by her grandfather, Wayne Laney; her poppa, Bill Burgin; her grandmother, Ellen Orton; and her grandfather, George william Orton.
She is lovingly remembered by her mother, Jana Laney; her father, Joe Orton; her devoted husband, Matthew Konkel; her grandparents Patty and Byashim Perengliev; her mother- and father-in-law, Tracy and Corby Konkel; her brother, Josh Orton (Donna); her sister-in-law, Kiersten Konkel; her brothers-in-law, Joshua and Dillon Wheless; her best friend, Malia Neel; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ally will be remembered for her determination, her driven work ethic, her compassion, her humor, her love for her family, and the energy and dedication she poured into every part of her life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Jackson Lake park on May 15th from 11-2 pm
Ally will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
