Durango

Anna Louise Girodo, 88 of Durango Colorado, passed away peacefully with her sons by her side. Born Anna Louise Smith in Silverton, Colorado, in the Benson Hotel December 2, 1935 to Annie M. Anesi and John Smith, her brothers Otto and Louie Smith. Anna soon became known affectionately as "Sis" to everyone whom she was related to, or lived in Silverton. She was called Sis by everyone in school most people not knowing her by any any other name. Unfortunately, Anna's father, John died when she was only three days old. She grew up in Silverton and lived at the Benson Hotel with her Mother, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Anna went to Colorado A&M, where she met her roommate Peggy. The two became great friends and soon moved to Greeley together to attend school at The University of Northern Colorado, where she attended school for two years. Anna moved back home to Silverton to do student teaching. In 1956 Anna met Joe Girodo in Silverton at the Saint Patrick's Day dance, where he asked her to dance. One year, one month, and ten days later the two were married in Silverton. Anna and Joe had two children, Daniel Joseph Girodo and John Anthony Girodo. Anna taught Kindergarten for two years in Silverton before the pair moved to Durango, where she finished her schooling at Fort Lewis College graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Science in 1965. She taught fourth grade at Park Elementary for eight years. Then she went to Needham Elementary and taught Kindergarten for thirty years. She loved every moment of it. Anna, Joe and their boys spent their summers fishing at Andrews lake and backpacking the Weminuche. Anna was devoted to her family, she was the biggest cheerleader for her children, and grandchildren. Anna is adored in the community by the many students, and parents whom she taught. She was preceded in death by mother, Annie M Smith, father, John Smith, brothers Otto Smith and Louie Smith, her Nona Louiga Anesi, her Nono Frank Baldesari Anesi and her husband Jospeh Clarence Girodo. Anna is survived by her sons, Daniel Girodo of Durango Co, and John Girodo of Silverton, Co, Grandson Daniel Girodo and wife Ashley Girodo, Great Grandsons Trevor and Jordan Girodo of Bayfield, CO. Grand daughter Valarie Brock, and husband Bryan, great grand children Kaitlyn, Samantha, and Evan, of Durango. Grand daughter Theresa Wolt and husband Pete Wolt, Great Grandchildren Taylor, and Olivia of Leonardtown, Maryland. Services to be announced at a later date.
