Lucy Bultmann

September 14, 1950 — May 25, 2016

Lucy Shirah Bultmann, 65, of Durango, Colorado passed away at Mercy Regional Medical Center on May 25, 2016 following a five year battle with cancer. Lucy was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 14, 1950 to Samuel and Lucy Hasell. She attended Notre Dame High School in Greensboro, NC and graduated from North Carolina State University in Raleigh with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology. Following her graduation from NC State University, Lucy obtained her first professional position with Texaco Oil in New Orleans, Louisiana. Lucy subsequently went on to complete her Master's Degree in Petroleum Geology at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

While at LSU, Lucy met the love of her life, Glenn Bultmann. The happy couple later married in July of 1976 and enjoyed close to forty years of wonderful camaraderie and marital partnership. Lucy's career path in the oil industry spanned several decades, and awards and accolades were frequent. She was somewhat of a "trail blazer" being a female in the oil industry in the 1970's and 1980's and helped to pave the way for numerous other female professionals wanting to follow in her footsteps.

Glenn also worked in the oil industry for several decades, and the couple lived in several locations during their professional careers including Louisiana, Colorado, Texas and California. Being outdoor enthusiasts, the couple always planned to retire in Colorado and subsequently settled in Durango, Colorado in 2011. Lucy was raised in a Christian home, and her retirement years centered on sharing and showing Jesus to others. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she worked with both senior and children's ministries. Her passion was mission work, which she demonstrated both in her local community and abroad. She had a servant's heart, was a cherished spouse and sister, close friend to many including her husband, and an ambassador of hope to fellow cancer patients and others.
Lucy is survived by her loving husband, Glenn, of the marital home. Her sibling, Janet Collins, and brother-in-law, Charles Collins, live in Winston-Salem, NC. Lucy's other brother and sister in-law are Gary and Mary Bultmann of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Jane and Greg Barber of Phoenix, Arizona along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Lucy Hasell, of Wallburg, North Carolina.

Memorial services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Durango, Colorado on June 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in Lucy's name to First United Methodist Church Mission Outreach Team.
