Charles (Chuck) Bodine passed away Thursday, September 10th, 2026. He was born August 4th, 1945 in Long Beach, California. His family moved to Durango a few years later.
Chuck graduated from the old Durango High School in 1963. He joined the Marine Corp after graduation and served in Vietnam. Chuck met his wife, Lillian, after serving in the Corps. They were married October 20th, 1968, and were happily married 56 years.
After serving in the Marine Corp he worked for his father, Jim Bodine, in construction. In 1975 the family purchased the Herb Williams Lumber Company (where the First National Bank sits today) and changed the name to Boker Lumber & Hardware and moved the business to 960 6th Street, where the family successfully operated the business for 40 years.
Chuck is survived by his sister, Marguerite (Rita) Walker, a daughter, Nikol Hampton, two sons, James Bodine and Scott Bodine, four grandchildren (Audra, Jarryn, Troy, Quincy) and 2 great grandchildren (Jeremy and Ashlyn).
Chuck and his wife Lillian were always busy with a project. Usually it involved some renovation on their house whether it was redoing a deck or installing a retaining wall. When Chuck was not busy with a house project he could be found woodworking, hunting or reading. His favorite authors were Louis L'amour, Tony Hillerman, and Clive Cussler.
A celebration of life will be held in Bayfield at 1590 North Mountain View Drive on Saturday, September 26th from 12pm to 3pm. Please stop by and share your memories.
