Obituary

Charles “Charlie” Torres was born in Socorro, N.M., on September 1, 1937, to Cleotilde (Tillie) Torres and Roger Gabaldon, Jr. He graduated from Socorro High School in 1955 and joined the U.S. Air Force in July of 1956. Charles was honorably discharged in August 1960.

Charlie was employed by the Dept of the Interior – BIA in 1961 in Shiprock, N.M., before being transferred to Gallup, N.M., in 1962 to work in telephone communications.

In June 1971, he was transferred to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a Radar Technician in Gallup. He retired from Federal service in 1993 after accruing 35 years of service.

On June 30, 1962, Charlie married the love of his life, Patricia A. Cook, at Christ the King Church in Shiprock, N.M. In 1987, they built their home in Arboles, CO.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife Patricia and his sons Brian Goodluck (Tracy), Mark E. Torres (Vanessa), Raymond K. Torres, and Aaron V. Torres (Sheryl). He leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

Per Charlie’s request, there will not be a memorial service. He did receive the Catholic “last rites,” and his beautiful soul was welcomed by God, who whispered, “Come with me” on June 18, 2026.

The kind words and prayers given by all are appreciated. Many, many thanks to all who honored him as a good man. May you be blessed in return!

Charlie loved his furry companions! In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the La Plata County Humane Society in Durango, CO, in his honor.
