Charles "Chuck" L. Widdop

Charles L. Widdop born Nov. 14th 1945, passed away in his home in Durango, Colorado on the morning of May 1st 2025 at the age of 79. Chuck is survived by his wife Janet Widdop, son Jesse Widdop and two grandkids, Wyatt and Lennix Widdop. `

He was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming and lived up there for a short period on Widdop ranch before his parents James and Shirley Widdop moved their family of 3(his older sister Sandra, him and his younger brother Rick) to Utah. There he went to grade school and high school. Throughout school he loved to play baseball, ski, ride dirt bikes and share good times with his friends. He then soon found his love for adventure and the desert of the southwest which is where he spent most of his free time. He was one of the first people to explore Lake Powell after being filled and also helped build the walk paths at Natural Bridges state park in the 70’s. He loved the feel of the sun on this skin, the sandstone beneath his feet and felt a deep connection to the people that once inhabited the southwest desert. He was a handy and artistic being that loved to build and create. From his incredible backyard deck to his amazing desert scene pastel or charcoal drawings Chuck’s creativity was endless. He always had a non biased approach to life which allowed him to see things in a different way than most and he was always willing to make a new friend from any walk of life. His infectious laugh, kind smile, playfulness and sense of adventure was adored by all who knew him.

Chuck was cremated and has asked to have his remains spread at one of his favorite camp sites in the desert. A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at his and Janet’s residence in Durango from 11AM- 2PM. Come share your favorite memories and or pictures with us over lunch.
