Demetrio Martinez passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, October 18th, 2026, at his home in Carracas Mesa, New Mexico. Born and raised in Carracas, Demetrio spent the majority of his life in Durango, where he dedicated 45 years of service as a foreman for the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. He was a man known by many and loved by all.

Demetrio was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bernie Martinez, and his daughter, Fay Martinez. He is survived by his grandchildren, Jenna and Devon Martinez, and his great-grandchildren, Michael, Sofia, Emily, Saylor, Brooklyn, Alice, Hadlyn, and Harper.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Hood Mortuary in Durango on Sunday, November 1st—which would have been his 91st birthday—at 12:00 p.m.
