Dewey Garald Peden, 90, of Durango, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, May 10th, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Dewey was born on October 1st, 1934, in Ackmen, Colorado, to Garald and Hazel Peden. He grew up farming in Montezuma County, Colorado. His family also farmed in southern Oklahoma for a number of years, but they later moved back to Colorado where he attended high school in Durango, and he graduated with his high school diploma in 1952. He was a proud veteran; he served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1961. On August 12th, 1961, he married Bertha Horvath. The two of them shared more than 60 happy years of marriage and had one daughter, Carol. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for 35 years. When he retired in 1994, he spent his time farming, traveling, hunting, and playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha; daughter: Carol (Brian) Little; grandchildren: Ashley (Tracey Davis) Little, Brandon (Sheena) Little; great-grandchildren: Colton, Madi, Bryndle and Harley; siblings: Linville Peden, Mary Lou Newnum; and sister-in-law: Edith Bukovec. He is preceded in death by his parents: Garald and Hazel Peden; siblings: Joanne White, Hazel May Boggs.
Memorial services will be held at Hood Mortuary on Friday, May 16th, at 2:00 PM, all friends and family are welcome to attend.
