It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Larry Snow “Doug” on July 13, 2026 at the age of 79 years old. He was born in Durango, CO. to Kinzer M. Snow, and Cleta D. Woolsey Snow. Doug started his early years in Pagosa Springs, CO., later moving to Bayfield, CO. to attend school. Any chance he got, time was spent exploring and trying to catch little critters that could be found. An innate love for nature was present even at such a young age. At the age of 13, work was found at various ranches around the area during the summer months. This eventually evolved into herding cattle on the summer range in his older teens. Doug was highly motivated to earn money. When he wasn’t working, he was in the wilderness. This was his church, as he always said.

Doug enlisted in the Army in September of 1965, and completed boot camp at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. Doug was then given his assignment and deployed to Hanau, Germany to serve with the 342D TRANS CO APO 09166 USAREUR unit. After being honorably discharged from the ARMY, he returned home. Transitioning from life overseas, he found employment with the U.S. Forest service building and repairing trails. Doug married Virginia A. Logan Snow in January of 1972 in Durango, CO., whereupon happily being married and later welcoming 2 children Doug Sean and Jody Snow. They were married for 54 years. Doug worked in the Aspen, CO. area ranging from construction, ski lift operator, propane delivery, Culligan technician, and Animal Warden for Basalt, CO. Doug and Virginia later moved back to Durango, CO. in 1975. He began working for Durango Coke-a-Cola, and retired after 40 years. During his tenure with Coke-a-Cola, traveling to nearby towns on various sales routes enriched his life by gaining many friends and a multitude of beloved stories. He was well known as the “Coke Man” in Dulce, NM.

Doug’s life was devoted to the love of the outdoors and hunting. Determination was abounding to leave camp or home in the early hours to walk miles before the crack of dawn. Many days were spent being the first person at the trail head, lake, or river. Whichever the destination was, he aspired to be the first one there, and the last one out! A compass was only used during thick fog. Somehow, he always seemingly knew where he was at, thus being gifted with the ability to go off the trail tree and oak bashing to get from point A to B. It was almost as if he had his own internal navigational system when in the woods or deep back country.

Doug has shared his life experiences with family and friends in a multitude of storytelling scenarios. One could expect a good tall tale as he was a jokester at heart. Gifted in always knowing how to pull a good joke and open up a conversation. In such interactions, everyone’s day was brightened by his warm smile and thoughtful words.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Cleta Snow, brothers Ron Snow, Butch Snow, and granddaughter Gracie Barlow. Doug is survived by his wife Virginia Snow, children Doug S. Snow, and Jody Snow (Brian Barlow), four grandchildren, one nephew, and 3 nieces.

Services will be held at Greenmount Cemetery Saturday August 1st, 2026 at 10:00AM at the Memorial for Veterans. Please bring a chair if needed to the graveside services. Open house Celebration of life to follow at Durango Recreation Center, 2700 Main Avenue, Durango, CO.81301. Windom Room, 12:30-2:30PM. A light lunch and refreshments will be served while we share beloved memories of our departed loved one.
