OBITUARY Harold L (Hal) Dunn
Hal was born January 8, 1931 in Taft, CA to Harold & Hattie Dunn.
He attended High School at North High in Denver, CO, and College at University of Colorado in Boulder, CO (1950), receiving his BA in geology (1954) and, MS in geology (1955). His Masters Thesis was on Micropaleontology and Stratigraphy of the Hygiene member of Pierre Formation —Denver Basin.
He served in the U S Air Force 1948 to 1949 in San Antonio & Wichita Falls, TX and in the reserves 1949-1955 in Denver. CO.
Hal worked for: Mobil Oil Corp - Rock Springs & Casper, WY; Sacramento, CA; and Durango, CO, from 1955 — 1969, Petro Lewis Corp — Denver, CO, from 1969 - 1976, Canus Oil — Denver, CO, from 1976 — 1980, Saxet Oil — Denver, CO, as an Independent Consulting Geologist from 1980-1983 (Rocky Mountains, Sacramento Basin, Gulf Coast, Mid Continent, Western Canada). Hal retired as a practicing geologist in 1986 and moved from Denver, CO to Phoenix, AZ in 1987, where he worked for the Maricopa County Air Quality Control from 1990-1997.
Volunteer activities included: Alpine Rescue Team — Evergreen, CO (a search & rescue organization) 1970-1980, Member of Colorado Search & Rescue Board, Red Cross & Emergency Medical Technician, and Recording books for the blind and dyslexic in Phoenix, AZ.
Hal married Susan C. Ballmer in 1951 and together they had 5 children. He married Karen Gaston in 1983.
Hal is preceded in death by: sister Marilyn Buonanno, step-sons Rick Gaston, & Rod Gaston.
He is survived by: Wife — Karen of Durango, CO, Son — Kevin of Snowflake, AZ, Son — Mike of Troy Montana, Son — Kerry of Snowflake, AZ, Son — Rick of Durango, CO, Daughter — Kathy of Aurora, CO, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and step-daughter Sheri Poore.
A celebration of life for family will be scheduled for next spring.
