Edward Lee Brown

June 26, 1950 — January 30, 2024

Durango

Lee was proud to be the 4th generation of the Brown family born and raised in the Durango area. He grew up on Reservoir Hill near the college and reminisced about good times with his sisters and cousins. Lee served in the Army from 1970-1972 as a Combat Engineer with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam. He met Wilma Fulks when he returned, they fell in love and were married in December of 1973. They raised 3 children in Ignacio on 40 acres of land, proudly living a rougher life without electricity, running water or telephone for many years. He was friends with his neighbors, and they often helped each other out. He worked as a stone mason and built his family home over many years. Lee always offered a place to stay and a hot cup of coffee to anyone in need and welcomed people stopping in. His “campfire coffee” was known to many that were left chewing it after the first drink. He loved hunting, fishing, and collecting antlers along with coins and other odd items. He taught many people how to hunt, fish and camp. Lee became Papa and loved his grandchildren very much. Grandkids will remember his stories and homemade French fries with his special sauce. Family birthday parties and holiday gatherings were times to share a meal with family and he looked forward to them. He enjoyed having breakfast with his friends and fellow Veterans. As a proud Vietnam Veteran, he always wore his hat. He was also strong in his faith and enjoyed learning about the Bible and strengthening his relationship with God.  Lee will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
