Errol G Jensen, 80, of Durango, Colorado has passed away on September 28th, 2025, surrounded by his family and friends.
Errol was born on March 15, 1945, in Emery, Utah to Rita and Lloyd Jensen. After earning his Master of Science from Utah State University, Errol went on to build a long and respected career as a civil engineer with the Bureau of Reclamation. This included a focus on the Animas La Plata Project, playing a key role in the engineering of Lake Nighthorse. His work reflected his hard work, dedication, precision, and steady nature; qualities that carried into all aspects of his life.
Alongside his engineering career, Errol remained deeply committed to his family ranch in Utah throughout his life. He balanced both worlds with integrity and grit; including managing livestock, caring for the land, and riding horses under the same sky he worked to protect through his professional life. This lifestyle was not just a responsibility; it was a calling. He found great joy in the rhythm of rural life, the bond with his animals, and the simple peace of ranching.
Outside of his career, Errol was a talented woodworker and a true outdoorsman. Whether crafting with his hands or exploring nature, he found joy and purpose in building, hunting, camping, and spending time under open skies.
Errol was preceded in death by his parents, Rita and Lloyd Jensen, and his brother Arden Jensen.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Grace Marie Jensen; his brother, Delbert Jensen; his children, Becky Coumerilh and husband Ken Perry of Cortez, Julie Hunsucker and husband Steve Hunsucker of Seattle, and Curt Jensen of San Francisco; and his four grandchildren, Alexandra Coumerilh and Marissa Coumerilh of Durango, Joseph Hunsucker and Sophie Hunsucker of Seattle.
A service to honor Errol’s life will be held at a later date.
Errol will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his quiet strength, and his love of the natural world.
