Obituary for Addie Lancaster Griggs

Addie Lancaster Griggs, 74, died Wednesday, April 06, 2011 at home in Bayfield, Colorado. Services will be held at a later date in Mississippi.

Addie was born February 21, 1937 in Ovett, Mississippi the daughter of Edward “Pete” and Verna (Clearman) Lancaster. Addie was married to Jesse Rogers Griggs on February 4, 1956 in Lucedale, Mississippi, and they were married for almost 55 years. Mr. and Mrs. Griggs both retired 20 years ago and moved to Bayfield in 2005 to be closer to their son and family.

Addie lead a quiet retirement, mostly spent caring for her ailing husband until his passing in 2010. In their younger years, the Griggs enjoyed an active social life as part of Mr. Griggs position was entertaining clients. In those days, Addie enjoyed bowling among other hobbies.

Addie was a very caring and generous person. She loved her family dearly, especially her husband Jesse. She will be deeply missed by all of her family.

“We are thankful to have many happy memories of Addie. I am so lucky/blessed and proud to have had Addie and Jesse as my parents in life,” Says her son, David.

She is survived by David and Susie Griggs (son and daughter-in-law) of Bayfield, CO, Edwina Shows of Ovett, MS, Bob Lancaster (brother) of Ovett, MS, Marie Smiley (sister) of Wetumpka, AL, and Josh & Jesse Griggs (grandsons) of Farmington.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse Rogers Griggs, her brother John Lancaster, her sister Billie Sue Owens and her parents.
