Obituary for Jesse Rogers Griggs
Jesse Rogers Griggs, 79, died Thursday, December 30, 2010 in Bayfield, Colorado. Services will be held at a later date and cremation will occur at Hood Mortuary Crematory in Durango.
Mr. Griggs was born November 19, 1931 in Jacksonville, Florida the son of B.F. and Lilly Griggs and he grew up in Jacksonville. Mr. Griggs enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and served 6 years in Japan. He married Addie (Lancaster) on February 4, 1956 in Lucedale, Mississippi. Jesse attended College at the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated with a degree in business administration.
Mr. Griggs worked for Baroid Corporation in Chemistry and Sales. He and Addie moved to Tucson and operated a chemical and garden product company which they owned. They moved from Tucson to Biloxi, Mississippi, in about 1992 and then to Bayfield in about 2006.
He is survived by his wife Addie Griggs of Bayfield, David Griggs (son) of Bayfield, , Irene Contos (sister), Vernon Griggs (brother), and Shirley Griggs (sister) all of Jacksonville, FL, Josh & Jesse Griggs (grandchildren) of Farmington, NM , and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother B.F. Griggs, Jr, his father B.F. Sr., and his mother Lilly.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Hospice of Mercy, 1 Mercado St., Suite 270, Durango, CO 81301.
