James D. Hopper, an avid outdoorsman and family man, was brought into this world on Tuesday, May 13th,1941 in Pueblo, Colorado to the love and care of Dale and Charlotte Hopper. Jim, a handsome young man, married his beautiful childhood sweetheart, Kay Joyce Prough, on Monday August 7th, 1961. Together they raised three loving daughters and settled down for a life in Southwest Colorado. Jim had a large loving family and was survived by his wife Kay Joyce Hopper, his three daughters and their husbands: Darcy and Lyle Eads, Darla and Kevin Karle, Donna and Erik Enriquez, his sister Myrna and her husband Ted Diaz, and his sister-in-law Pauline Hopper. James was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Charlotte Hopper, his brother Ronald Hopper and his first grandchild Joel Eads. He had nine grandchildren, Joel, Mason, Jordan, Jamin, Trevor, Shelby, Jesse, Alec, Garret and one great grandson, Huxley. Jim was an interesting fellow and a well-rounded man. His many passions, hobbies and skills are numerous enough that you would need a cup of coffee and a chair to truly digest the adventures of James D. Hopper. His love for the San Juan mountains and passion for fly fishing resonated throughout his life. He took great joy in passing these tailored skills down through the generations of family, and loved the time he spent doing so. Later in life he would start a family tradition outfitting and teaching all 9 of his grandchildren to fly fish. Once capable and able to brave the river, James taught his grandchildren to read the water, study the hatches, account for weather and best yet, tie their own flies. He was also an avid photographer with a keen eye for shots of the southwest, ancient Native American dwellings, and beautiful mountain surroundings. James owned his own HVAC business for over 40 years, which he operated with his wife Kay, until age 80. James D. Hopper passed away at age 83 in the loving presence of family.
