Jimmy Leon Mooring

Jimmy Leon Mooring died November 22, 2023 of complications from Parkinson’s at Mercy Hospice House in Durango, Colorado. He was born February 13, 1941 at home in Hawkens, Texas to James Staten Mooring and Mary Viola Alexander Mooring. Jimmy graduated from Monahans High School, in Monahans, Texas and attended Odessa College. He was drafted in 1964 and served as a medic in the US Army at Fort Hood, Texas until 1969. He worked in the natural gas industry in the Odessa area until he moved to Four Corners in 1989 to build gas plants for Meridian Oil. He retired from Burlington Resources and moved to Durango in 1999. Jimmy was a ski instructor for many years at Purgatory Resort and Santa Fe Ski Resort.

He was preceded in death by his parents; older brother Clifton “Bo” Mooring & wife Ray Nell; sister Mary Lou Mooring; sister-in-law Carol Wohlfahrt; brother-in-law Robert Stroud and wife and step-son Keith Van Ausdall; brother-in-law Larry Young Stroud

Jimmy is survived by wife Jeanie Van Ausdall; his sister Patsy Hunt of Cresson, Texas;  Nieces & Nephews: Ricky Mooring, Misty Kimbrough & husband Don of Rockport, Texas, Randy Mooring & wife Renee of Midland, Texas, Ronny Mooring & wife Theresa of Menard, Texas, Vicky Alvarez & husband Humberto of Lordsburg, New Mexico, Rhonda Davis of Grandfalls, Texas, Stacey Davis & wife Elaina of Midland, Texas and Mike Davis & wife Kippy of Grandfalls, Texas; sister-in-law Kathy Bogue of Ione, Calif. ; step-son Jeff Van Ausdall & wife Tara of Fishers, Indiana; daughter-in-law Christy Gamez Of Fort Worth, Texas; brother-in-law Guy Wohlfahrt of Greeley, Colorado; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; niece Chandal Bass & husband Danny of Pierce, Co.; niece Britta Johnson & husband Zach of Greeley, Co.; great-nephews & nieces and many great-great-nephews & nieces.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11am at Durango Church of Christ, 2100 W. 3rd Ave., Durango, Colorado.
