Joan Maxine Horton passed away Friday, June 13, 2025, in Durango. She was 91 years old.
Joan was born November 20, 1933, to Edward Walter Collins and Helen Johnston Collins in Lincoln, Illinois. She grew up in Rochelle, Illinois and graduated high school there. She moved to DeKalb, Illinois at 18 years old. She married Gerald Edward Horton at the Four Square Gospel Church in Rochelle on June 18, 1955. She worked at DeKalb Agriculture Research and later worked at Scorburgs Furniture. Joan was also a food care coordinator with Meals on Wheels.
Joan and Gerald moved to Bayfield, CO in April of 2015.
The most important thing to Joan was her faith and family. Joan was an active member of the Four Square Gospel Church in DeKalb and the Pine Valley Church in Bayfield.
She is survived by her children: Suzanne Leveck-Collins and Ronald (Marian) Horton; siblings: William Collins, Karen Marshall, and Linda Sliger; grandchildren: April Ludwig, Noelle Pimienta, Heather Carlton, Holly Godbey, Benjamin Leveck, Christopher Terry, and Hailee Horton; 12 great-grandchildren;
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Gerald Edward Horton; sisters: Donna Abbott, Patricia Brayton.
A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 11 AM, at Pine Valley Church, Bayfield. Burial will follow at Pine River Cemetery.
