Born March 29, 1946 in Durango, Colorado to Joseph Thomas Caranta and Evelyn Francis Caranta. The family lived in Monero, New Mexico. When Joe was fourteen his three sisters (Irene, Burnadette, Mary Francis), and mother moved to Durango after his father’s passing. Joe attended and graduated from Durango High school. He also attended Fort Lewis College and served in the National Guard for six years. He married Sherry Ann Peterson December 2nd, 1967. The couple built their home in Durango on the Florida Mesa. Joe worked construction and then for the Colorado department of Transportation for 30 years. Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting, and a country lifestyle. Joe is preceded in death by his parents and sister Bernadette Box of Montrose, Colorado. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Caranta, sisters; Irene Perry of San Antonio, Texas, and Mary Francis Trujillo of Durango, Colorado. Daughters; Evelyn (Darryl) Kernell Bryant of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma., Evette (Larry) Wiley of Ignacio, Colorado, Grandchildren Alisha Freeman and Cody Bryant, great granddaughters Ashley Freeman and Kayce Freeman, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
