John Layne Randolph

John Randolph passed away in his home on December 14, 2025, following several years of declining health. He was born in Kearney, Nebraska on September 11, 1948, to John S. and Wynona Randolph.

John was involved in Track and Field, with his focus on Pole Vaulting, for which he won numerous awards and championships. John had degrees from Kearney State College and the University of Nebraska in Mathematics, Education and Electrical Engineering. He moved to Durango in autumn 1976 to teach school and coach Cross Country.

He moved to Vallecito Lake in late 1976 and lived out his life there. John "retired" from school teaching in 1977 and worked in hard rock mining, excavation, heating air conditioning and sheet metal. In 1991 he became owner and operator of John's Service and Construction, a company which has focused on all types residential and commercial maintenance and repair, home inspections. He loved working with his hands, and figuring out how to solve more complex mechanical problems.

In 1981 he met Robin Bond , and they were married later that year. As children came along they added on to their Vallecito home and their property, where they have lived ever since.

John loved working. He also enjoyed horseback riding, golf, and spending time at home. He was a member of the Durango Narrow Guage Barbershop Chorus for almost 40 years, and enjoyed singing in various quartets through the years. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

John is survived by his wife Robin Bond Randolph; children Jessica Wood, Michaela (Adam) Davis, and John-Isaac (Delaney) Randolph; seven grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law Gary and Lea Randolph, Raymon and Lanna Randolph.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Lanny Randolph.
