Obituary

Judy Ann Armistead was born on February 12, 1941, and passed away peacefully in her sleep, leaving behind a life filled with music, nature, independence, and unforgettable memories

Judy was the mother of two sons, Gary Andrew Armistead, born February 17, 1960, who preceded her in death, and Michael Joseph Smith, born February 17, 1965

She was previously married to Zolton Sydney Smith, born March 6, 1940, who is also deceased.

Judy lived life on her own terms and was deeply connected to the outdoors. She loved the forests, mountains, rivers, and natural beauty that surrounded her throughout much of her life. After spending years in the California mountains, she moved to Colorado in the late 1990s, where her son built her a home in Aspen Springs among the trees and quiet mountain air she loved so much.

She especially loved hot springs and spent many years working at “The Springs” in Pagosa Springs, where she deeply enjoyed the private mineral baths for women. She loved welcoming visitors, sharing stories and anecdotes, and helping people experience the peace and healing atmosphere that made the hot springs so special to her. To Judy, the springs were more than a place to work — they were a place of comfort, conversation, and connection.

Judy also loved the rock ’n’ roll music of the late 1960s and early 1970s and carried the spirit of that era with her throughout her life. She valued freedom, nature, music, and authenticity. Dogs and cats always seemed to find a home in her life and in her heart.

She was also a longtime medical cannabis enthusiast who believed in the healing qualities of the plant and appreciated the comfort and peace it brought her over the years.

Those who knew Judy will remember her as strong-willed, independent, warm-hearted, and unapologetically herself. Her memories live on in the mountains she loved, the music she cherished, and the stories shared by the people whose lives she touched.

Judy now rests peacefully among the forested mountains, hot springs, and rivers that she cherished most.
