Obituary

June Marie Hahl passed away on January 17, 2026. She was surrounded by her family, Tom, Jamie, and Laurie (Barker), their spouses, Cindy, Mary and Rod. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard. She is survived by 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

June was born in Los Angeles, California on June 25th, 1930, but her family was from the Denver area. In fact, her Great-grandfather started the first hardware store in the state, Moore Hardware & Iron which later sold to Jackson Hardware of Durango. As a young child, her family fell on hard times during the Depression and lost their home, leading to many moves before ending up in the Denver area.

She attended East High School where she was a writer for the school paper. After graduation, June went to the University of Colorado in Boulder to study writing and found herself working part time as a waitress in Evergreen, CO. While there, she met a cowboy named Leonard, they fell in love, and were married in 1950. The pair created a family of 3 children, 2 boys and a girl, in Littleton, CO.

As an adult, June continued writing. She wrote a column for the local paper in Littleton as well as a newsletter for St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. June was very active with the Church working as a secretary for the Diocese of Colorado, St. Timothy's Parish in Littleton and St. Mark's in Durango. She loved to sing in the Choir at Church and was also a member of The Durango Choral Society. She was an ardent Denver Broncos fan with season tickets from the team's inception.

June and Leonard moved to Durango in the 90's and stayed for the remainder of their lives.

The Family would like to thank the Staff at Durango Health and Rehabilitation Center and Pasco/SW Hospice for their dedication and care.

A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date in the Spring.
