Obituary

Louise Romero, age 90, of Durango, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, June 5, 2026. She was born on July 23, 1935, the daughter of Manuel and Guadelupe Lujan.

Born and raised in Durango, Louise met the love of her life, Basilio Romero, whom she married on December 27, 1951. Together they built a life centered on family, love, laughter and a home always open to others.

Louise worked at Tamarron Resort from 1984 until she retired, where she was known for her dedication, warmth, and strong work ethic.

She was the beloved mother of James (Lisa) and Theodore Romero (Laverne), Anna Monaghan (Frank) and Mark Romero (Marla).

She was the sister of Gilbert, Amador, and Molly Lujan, Francis Sandoval, Joe F. Lujan, Cimona Martinez, Manuel Lujan Jr., and Johnny Lujan.

Louise was known for her fantastic quick wit, her sharp sense of humor, her love of casinos (especially the slot machines) and cultivating future generations of The Young and the Restless viewers. She was generous in every way: with her time, honesty, humor, advice, and her home. She could often be found in her kitchen or living room, the house filled with the noise of her children, grandchildren, and great‑grandchildren.

For decades, her home was the heart of the family. Sundays, holidays, and every occasion, whether joyful or difficult, were spent gathered around her, finding comfort and joy in her presence and in the traditions she created.

Louise is survived by her children Theodore, Anna, and Mark, as well as her grandchildren Shae, Dion (Gina), Mark Anthony (Kristi), and Jeffrey Romero, Tracine Marquez (Anthony), Patricia Louise Salom (Evan), Cassi (Keely), Raymond Basilio (Krystan), Cammie Jo, John James, and Anna Louise Romero, and Tomacia Manwill. She leaves behind her great-grandchildren: Lilly and Peter Oles, Kandice Marquez, Brevan and Kyla Romero, Quinton Willis, Anthony Marquez Jr, Natalie Marquez, and Micah, Winnie and Quinn Salom. She is also survived by her brother Johnny.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Basilio, her loving son James, and her siblings Gilbert, Amador, Molly, Francis, Joe, Cimona, and Manuel.

Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 254 5th Ave., Durango, CO. 81301, Friday, June 12th, 2026, with Mass starting at 10:00 AM. Committal will occur at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango following Mass.

Louise’s legacy of love, humor, generosity, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. To know Louise is to love Louise. She will be deeply missed for the rest of our lives.
