Aileen Lowry-Allison (Isgar)
b. 13 October 1929
d. 19 April 2021

Aileen Louise Lowry-Allison (Isgar) passed away on 19 April 2021 at 91 years, peacefully and at home in Noble OK with family. She is preceded in death by husband, Wayne F. Lowry, her parents, Robert and Dora Mae Isgar, brother Robert C. Isgar, son-in-law James Chaplin, and one grandchild, Paul M Lowry. Aileen is survived by her six children, sons Michael (Debby), David (Evelyn), Kenneth (Lisa), James (Melinda), Jerold (Janice) and daughter Barbara Chaplin; her sisters Dorothy Eichbaum, Barbara Gordon (Alvin) and Georgia Hollar; and 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and her great friend Mazie Curry.

Aileen lived until 6 years of age with her grandparents, Clyde and Marietta Kincaid of Ignacio, grew up on the ranch in the Florida River valley with her parents until she moved into Durango to attend high school, graduating from Durango High School in 1947. She worked at Ft Lewis A&M in Hesperus where she met her husband, Wayne, and they married in 1949. Eventually she and the family moved to Maryland where she managed the payroll for the College of Business at the University of Maryland until she retired in 1990. Following retirement Aileen moved to Norman, Oklahoma in 1992 to be near family. She was a Master Gardener and active in the Oklahoma Master Gardeners Association. Aileen enjoyed sewing garments including clothes for her children and a wedding dress for a daughter in law. She also liked to cook for her family and made the best pies ever. And her garden was always blooming and beautiful with many unusual plants to enjoy. Aileen and Wayne loved to square dance and go camping. She was sassy with a big dollop of love. She never hesitated to tell you how much she loved and appreciated you.

Aileen loved her family, as well as animals – especially her dog Molly. She liked telling stories about riding her horse to the one room school house and that the older students would care for the horse and saddle because she was too small. She remembered the excitement of driving across the fields and wagon roads in Grandpa’s Ford Model A. She stayed some summers in the mining camps in the La Plata mountains and rode the Galloping Goose.

Aileen was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and was active in the Baptist Church in all the communities in which she lived; baptized at First Southern Baptist Church Durango and finally as a member of First Baptist Church Norman.

Aileen was a good friend to many people from all parts of her life. She and Wayne welcomed their children’s friends into their home and stayed in touch with many of them through the years. Aileen was gracious and kind and loved her family without reservation. We loved her deeply.

The family would like to thank Dr Merrill and nurse Pam for the care they provided for mom in the last 30 years; Rivermont Assisted Living and Memory Care for the care they provided, Good Shepherd Hospice, nurse Teresa, aides Jayna and Shyann for the tender care and friendship they gave to mom in the last months of her life. We, her children, count it a privilege and an honor to care for our mom in the home during her last days.

Oklahoma arrangements are provided by Primrose Funeral Service, Norman OK. Service and burial will be in Durango, Colorado on May 15, 2021 at 10:00am at Hood Mortuary Chapel. Condolences can be sent to PO Box 1645, Noble OK 73068.
