Lucy Valencia Martinez, aged 91, passed away on December 8, 2025, in Denver, CO. Born on June 30, 1934. Lucy was a beacon of love and joy to all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Lucy was dedicated to her work, having been employed at C.O.D. laundry, Plaza Pharmacy, and City Market.
Lucy was a woman of deep personal faith, maintaining a special relationship with God that guided her throughout her life.
She had a vibrant personality, characterized by her love for embroidery, her enjoyment of casino visits, and her passion for spending time with family and friends. These activities were more than pastimes; they were ways in which Lucy expressed her love and maintained her strong connections.
Lucy’s life was marked by the profound relationships she had with her family. She is survived by her children, Linda Robinson (married to Wendell Hill) of Byers, CO; her son, Floyd of Durango, CO; Debbie (married to Troy Cordell) of Hesperus, CO; Denise “Leora” Yazzie, of Bloomfield, NM: and Annette (married to Mike Somsen) of Durango, CO; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman; daughter, Bonnie; parents, Juan and Donelia Valencia; granddaughter, Cecelia; son-in-law, Lewis Yazzie; five brothers; and a sister.
A memorial service to honor Lucy’s life will be held at Hood Mortuary on March 6th at 10:00 am. The family welcomes all who knew Lucy to join in commemorating her wonderful life. Lucy Martinez will be remembered not only for her vibrant spirit and loving nature but also for the indelible impact she left on everyone she met.
Her legacy of warmth and kindness will undoubtedly live on through her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
