Marian Louise Huffman passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025 in Fruita, Colorado.
She was born May 30, 1942 in Alamosa, Colorado to William L. Huffman Sr. and Albina M. Marcon Huffman. The oldest of nine children, she grew up in La Veta, Colorado and graduated from La Veta High School in 1960. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Adams State University (College) in 1964. Marian began teaching fourth grade in Albuquerque, New Mexico and later became one of the first elementary school librarians. Marian and Ernest A. Blythe married in Albuquerque in 1969. This marriage produced the two most important things in Marian's life, her sons. Robert (Rob) A. Blythe, born 1974 and Daniel J. Blythe born 1977. Marian and Ernest moved to Durango, Colorado in 1976. They opened and operated La Plata Jewelry, owning it until 2018. In December 2000 Marian changed careers and began working for Durango School District 9-R in the Finance Department. She retired in 2022.
Marian is survived by her two sons Robert (Rob) and Daniel; brother John Huffman, sisters Georgia Willcox, Catherine Huffman, Elizabeth Smith, and Debra Smith; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, a nephew and nieces. Marian was preceded in death by her father William, her mother Albina, her brothers William (Bill) Jr., Robert (Bob) and David.
Marian was loved dearly and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Services will be held at Hood Mortuary Wednesday January 14, 2026 at 10:00 AM followed by graveside service. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the LaPlata County Humane Society.
