Dora Mehring

August 24, 1936 — February 26, 2021

Dora Ellanette Vigil-Mehring was born on August 24, 1936. She and her twin sister Dorothy Martinez were born in the Edward T. Hospital to Jose Alcario and Juanita (Jennie) Vigil in Ignacio, Colorado. She attended the Southern Ute Boarding School for her Kindergarten and first grade years before the Vigil family moved to Fruita, Colorado in the late 1940’s.

She married her husband Merle Leroy Mehring on December 18, 1960 in Grand Junction, Colorado. They were blessed with their only son, Chris Lloyd Mehring. Together they made a home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dora was a homemaker, mother and wife. While in Albuquerque she helped with a painting business who contracted Merle as a painter. Dora also provided in-home health for the elderly. She would take care of her clients loved ones both, in their home, or in her home with her family. Dora had a big heart and was a hard worker. She had a strong faith in God and was loved by her church family.

In 2005 Dora and Merle moved back to Ignacio to be closer to family. They lived there for 10 years. Later in life in 2015, Dora and Merle became residence at the Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango Colorado. Where they made everyone, who encountered them their extended family. They loved the staff and cherished the memories that they made together. She always had a smile on her face and was full of laughter.

On February 26, 2021 she began her spiritual journey to God. She is preceded in death by her husband, Merle Leroy Mehring; son Christopher Lloyd Mehring; parents Jose Alcario and Juanita (Jennie) Vigil; siblings: twin sisters Alivamah and Margarita Vigil, Orlando Atencio, Rose (John) Werito, Willie J. Martinez, Victor C. Monte, Dolores (Victor) Atencio.

She is survived by her siblings: Her twin sister Dorothy Martinez, Joe (Cora) Vigil, Shirley (Tiny) Shipp, Betty (Eddie) Box, Pete (Marlene) Vigil, Paul (Julie) Vigil, Stella (Stan) Cox, & Stephanie Monte; extended stepchildren from Merle’s previous marriage, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her beautiful nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be recited on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Hood Mortuary, 1261 E 3rd Ave, Durango, CO. Internment after will be held after at Greenmount Cemetery, 900 Cemetery Rd, Durango, CO. All who attend are asked to wear a face mask.
