Obituary

Miqueas “Mike” Atencio was called home to heaven June , 2026, he was 42 years old. Born July 23, 1983, to Leonard and Roberta Atencio, he was born with a rare chromosome disorder. Recombinant 8 Syndrome AKA San Luis Valley Syndrome. Very rare and predominantly found in Hispanic children. He was the oldest known survivor of this disorder even with physical and mental disabilities, he lived every day to the absolute fullest. Mike was a member of Sacred Heart Church and could be found singing at Mass on the weekends and yelling bingo on Tuesdays. He was a lifelong Denver Broncos fan and loved watching the Colorado Rockies. Later in life the casino became his favorite hangout. No matter the activity or location, Mike was always the light of the party. His enthusiasm, humor, and loving nature will surely be missed; his selfless nature made him live each day to the fullest for everyone around him, especially his family who was his whole world. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Roberta; nephew Isaiah Mayberry; grandparents George and Jeanne Montoya, Miqueas and Romancita Atencio.

Rosary will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango on Friday June 12th from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. He will be laid to rest in Greenmount Cemetery.
