Phillip Luther Scott, lovingly known as Phil, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, in Vallecito, Colorado, at the age of 92. He was born on June 25, 1933, in Alamogordo, New Mexico, to Frank Scott and Myrtle Tyrone.
Phil grew up with a strong sense of duty, hard work, and loyalty—values that guided him throughout his life. He graduated from Pasadena City High School in Pasadena, California, in 1952. Shortly thereafter, he answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Navy in 1952 and proudly serving until 1956.
In 1958, Phil began a distinguished career with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. For 21 years, he served his community with courage and dedication. Being a firefighter was more than a job to Phil—it was a calling, and he carried immense pride in protecting others and working alongside his brothers in the fire service.
In 1970, Phil met the love of his life, Bonnie McCune. Their connection was immediate and profound, and after just four months they married on November 29, 1970, in Logan, Oklahoma. Over the next fifty-five years, they built a life grounded in love, partnership, and adventure. They made their home in Ventura, California, until 1981, when they followed their hearts to Vallecito, Colorado—a place they considered their own paradise.
In Vallecito, Phil and Bonnie built not only a home, but a life rich with friendship, laughter, and community. They were blessed with many dear friends who became like family, and Phil was known for his warmth, steady presence, and genuine kindness. He loved the beauty of the mountains and the peace of the life they created there together.
Phil is survived by his daughter, Jilene and her partner Ryan, and his son David and his wife Angie. He was blessed with two grandchildren, great grandchildren and an extended family through Bonnie that loved him dearly. His legacy is one of service, devotion, and love—a life well lived and deeply cherished.
Phillip Luther Scott will be remembered for the quiet strength with which he walked through life. He will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
