Durango resident, Bernita Ann Rael, 59, passed away on, Monday, October 18, 2021, in Aurora, CO, surrounded by her children and husband.
Bernita was born in Durango, CO to Ben Cordova and Magdalena Medina on January 16, 1962. On June 21, 1986, she married Michael Rael in Durango. In their 35 year marriage they had two sons and one daughter; Andrew, Alicia and Adam.
Bernita worked at Park Elementary while her children were there, then went into the medical field to be a surgery technician at Mercy Medical Hospital. Later becoming a MOHS tech at Durango Dermatology.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Rael; son, Adam (Nicole) Rael, of Gypsum, CO; daughter, Alicia Rael, of Durango, CO; brothers, Chris (Ruth) Medina, of Aztec, NM; Phil (Maxine) Martinez, of Bayfield, CO and Gilbert (Heidi) Martinez of Durango; sister, Judy Atencio of Las Vegas, NV. She had three grandchildren whom she loved and cared about immensely; Ayden Rael, Shauna Rael and Athena (Adison) Smart. And many nieces and nephews.
She will be cremated and buried with her late son, Andrew Ian Rael. No services are planned; per her request.
