Ralph Henery Kennington, 84, passed away on July 25, 2026, in Durango, Colorado. He was born on April 5, 1942, in Wyoming, and lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, faith, and enduring kindness.

Ralph graduated from Afton High School in Afton, Wyoming, in 1960. Straight out of high school, he entered the Army, beginning his adult life with service and commitment. Over the years, he built a strong working life centered on dedication and responsibility. He drove bus for the UTA, the Utah Transit Authority, for many years before moving to Durango, Colorado, where he worked for Telluride Iron Works for several years. He later joined Durango Transportation as a bus driver, where he continued to serve his community until his retirement. His years with Durango Transportation were a particular source of pride, and he received many awards and recognition for his hard work and dedicated service.

Those who knew Ralph will remember a man who was kind and loving, a man with many friends, and someone whose heart was always centered on the people he loved most. He loved his family more than anything. He especially loved his children and grandchildren, and one of the clearest reflections of that love was his determination to travel to important family events for as long as he was physically able. Being present for the people he loved mattered deeply to him, and that steady presence will be remembered with gratitude.

Ralph also found joy in life’s familiar comforts and simple pleasures. He enjoyed fishing, visiting with family, attending church, watching WWE on mute, and scrolling social media. These everyday interests, along with his warm nature and easy companionship, made him someone people enjoyed being around and someone whose absence will be deeply felt.

He is survived by his children, Karmon Kennington, Lyle Kennington, Kevin Kennington, Kerrie Kennington, and Karrie Kennington. He was also surrounded by the love of his family through the close bond shared among Lyle, Kevin, and Kerrie. Ralph’s love for his family was the foundation of his life, and that love remains a lasting gift to those who carry his memory forward.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elbert Kennington; his mother, Ruby Kennington; his son, Brent Kennington; his first wife, MaryAnne; and his second wife, Patricia.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 5, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Durango Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2 Hilltop Circle, Durango, Colorado 81301.

Ralph will be remembered for his faithful work, his loving heart, and the way he showed up for the people who mattered most. His life was one of service, loyalty, and love, and his memory will continue to live on in the family and friends who were blessed to know him.
