Ray was born on July 10, 1967. A Durango high school graduate class of 86. Immediately he went into the army until 1990. After the military he went to live in Beatty Nevada to be with his parents. There he met his wife Veronica after meeting they moved to Elko, Nevada, where he was an underground miner for 10 years. From there, Ray and his son moved back to Beatty to be with family. Ray was a pillar of the Beatty community. He was a board member on the chamber of commerce, a fire captain for the volunteer fire department, and was a lead coach for Little League baseball. In 2007 Ray and his son moved back to his hometown of Durango. Ray enjoyed his final years fishing and riding is Harley. Ray is proceeded in death by his parents Dessie, Rena, his brothers, Tom, Ron and sister Deidra. Ray is survived by his only child, Johnnie Valdez, his two sisters, Berlinda Mestas and Barbara Owen.
