Roberta Montoya-Atencio

Roberta Montoya-Atencio passed peacefully at home on September 27, 2025. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, October 31, 2025 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango. Burial will occur at a later date. Please feel free to wear your favorite Denver Bronco or Halloween shirt to the services.

She is survived by children: Tonya (George) Mayberry, Joaquin & Mikey Atencio; siblings: Marlene (Mike) Anderson, Garry Montoya, Karen (Bob) Gomez & Sherri (Gene) Gurule; grandchildren: George (Morgan) & Lawrence Mayberry: great-grandchildren: Mila, George, Ryatt & Bristol. Preceded in death by husband, Leonard; grandson: Isiah Mayberry; parents: George & Jean Montoya; sister: Georgianne Mendez.

Roberta "Bird" was born January 8, 1958 in Durango, grew up and attended schools in Durango. She married Leonard Atencio on February 11, 1985. She worked at her families restaurant before attending nursing school. She then worked at Mercy Medical, Four Corners Health Care Center, and most noteably, for Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

The most important aspects in Roberta's life were her faith, family, and the Denver Broncos. She was also a huge Elvis fan. Roberta loved everyone and was loved by so many!
