Cecil Anthony Roth, 84, died Wednesday, August 6, 2014 in Durango, Colorado. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 11, 2014 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hood Mortuary and a Funeral Service will be Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Hood Mortuary. Jim Powell will be officiating. Burial with military honors will occur at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
Mr. Roth was born April 27, 1930, in Hay Gulch, Colo., the son of Joseph and Eleta Roth. He grew up in the Hesperus and Hay Gulch area and attended school in Mayday, Colo. Cecil was tasked with caring for the family on the ranch after his father’s death. Cecil enlisted in the Marines during Korean War and he returned to La Plata County upon discharge. He served as a Deputy Sheriff and a volunteer fireman.
Mr. Roth married Shirley Louise (Robinson) on August 10, 1963 at the Presbyterian Church in Durango.
Cecil worked for the Colorado State Highway Department for 31 years and boasts a near perfect attendance record for only one day missed.
Cecil was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting in the La Plata Mountains. He was a collector of anything and everything useful.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Roth of Durango, a daughter: Tamara Walcott of Henderson, Nev., Son: Terry Roth of Patterson, N.Y., Daughter: Kristi Stewart of Montrose, Penn., daughter: Lisa Schwartz of Durango, Son: Mick Roth of Mesa, Ariz., 8 grandchildren: Joshua, Jason, Cassandra, Matthew, Amanda, Elisabeth, Michael and Anthony, and one great-granddaughter: Kaidynce.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings.
