Roy Stevens, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and son, passed away, at home, smiling, sharing memories, and laughing on May 17, 2026, at the age of 72.
Born on December 30th, 1953, in Imperial Beach, California, Roy lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love for his family and community. He proudly served in the United States Army from February 1972 to October 1975, carrying the values of honor and commitment throughout his life.
Following his military service, Roy devoted many years to serving his community through the Pagosa Springs Fire Department. During his 10-year tenure at the department, he served for 8½ years as Captain of Station 5, becoming its first captain under the leadership of Warren Grams. His steady leadership and willingness to help others left a lasting impact on those who served beside him.
He also faithfully served the Aspen Springs Metro District from 1991 to 2016 alongside Carey Brown, contributing greatly to the growth and well-being of the community he cared so deeply about.
Above all else, Roy treasured his family. He was a loving father, proud grandfather, caring brother, and devoted son whose kindness, humor, wisdom, and strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Few things brought him more joy than celebrating his children’s and grandchildren’s achievements or attending a sporting event in which his grandchildren were participating.
He is survived by his children, Marshall (Ashley) Currier, Jessica Stevens, Jack (Emma) Stevens; grandchildren, Sean Gallegos, Elizabeth Currier, Victoria Currier, Deegen Hoffschneider and Aliana Hoffschneider; brothers and sisters, Judy Schultze, Nancy (Les) Shepard; former wife and friend, Teresa Norton; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Ruth (Meader) Stevens; brothers and sisters Joyce Brown, Richard Brown, Josh Brown, Maxine (Stevens) Graves, Luthera (Brown) McNerlin.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date to honor and celebrate his life.
His legacy of service, integrity, and love for family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
