Sandra K
Schoonover
Aug 13, 1944 — Aug 21, 2026
Durango, CO
Sandra K. Schoonover, lovingly known as Sandy, passed away on August 21, 2026, in Durango. She was born on August 13, 1944, in Illinois to parents Shirley Palmer and Geraldine Plante; living a life marked by generosity, warmth, and deep devotion to her family.
After her birth in Illinois, Sandy’s family moved to Durango, Colorado, in the 1950s. Durango became an important part of her life story. She attended Durango High School, where she was a cheerleader and participated in high school rodeo. After graduating, she moved to Texas, where she married and welcomed two children. In time, life brought her back to Durango, the community that remained close to her heart.
Sandy worked at Colorado Land and Title in the real estate industry. She was known as a giving person, someone who was always looking out for everyone else. That caring spirit extended into every part of her life and shaped the way she connected with family and friends.
She found joy in many things. Sandy loved Christmas time and delighted in decorating multiple trees throughout the house, creating beauty and celebration for those around her. She enjoyed making floral arrangements and sharing them as gifts, a reflection of her thoughtful nature. She also loved the outdoors and yard work, and took pleasure in horses, golf, and tennis. Above all, she treasured spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sandy is survived by her daughter, Stacy Cannady, and her son, Donald Schoonover, and his wife, Samantha. She also leaves behind a large and beloved family of grandchildren: Dayton, Lindsay, Taylor, Danny, Zak, Hayley, Kobe, Aiden, Daphne, and Emme. Her love also extended to her great-grandchildren, Lane and Colt. She will be remembered with affection by all who shared in her life and by the family she cherished so deeply.
Sandy’s life was one of care, energy, and generosity. She gave of herself freely, celebrated the people she loved, and brought beauty into everyday moments. Her memory will remain a blessing to her family and to all who knew her.
