Alice Shaw died at her residence at Valley Inn, Mancos on May 14, 2021, at the age of 91. Alice was known for her love of the mountains and all things Colorado. She was the founder, designer, and first owner of The Earthen Vessel in downtown Durango. She had a love of working with youth, and in her prime was a swimming instructor for cerebral palsy children, Pioneer Girl leader, piano teacher, and co-leader for a children of a divorce group. She was an avid vegetable gardener, photographer, and classical pianist. Highlights of her life were rafting down the Colorado and Green Rivers.
She was preceded in death by her late former husband, Ronald Yoch and her sister, Evelyn Fuchcar. She is survived by: her daughter, Deborah (Charles) Bigelow; son, Randall (Karen) Yoch and four grandchildren Peter Bigelow (Ericka), Rachel Steen (Dan) and Ryan Yoch (Karina) and Tyler DeLarme (Tyler) and eight great grandchildren – Nathan, Jill, and Luke Steen, and Kylie and Reece Yoch, and Eliza Colin, and Jack Bigelow.
A graveside service will be held at Greenmount Cemetery, in Durango, at 10am on Wednesday, May 26, 2021.
