Susan Greany Velasquez

Susan Greany "Sue" Velasquez age 73 passed away Wednesday morning October 25th, 2023 in Durango, Colorado. Sue was born February 6th, 1950 in Clinton, Oklahoma to Clifton Greany Sr. and Hazel Stoneroad. Sue attended Chilocco Indian School in Oklahoma for a short time before moving to Ignacio, Colorado. She was a 1969 graduate of Ignacio High School. There is where she met her honey and soulmate Abel Velasquez Sr. The two of them were married straight out of high school. They didn't want to waste no time. Not soon after they started their family.

Sue was devoted to her education, and eventually graduated from San Juan College in Farmington, NM. with her AA in Early Childhood Education. Sue started from the bottom and worked her way up at The Southern Ute Montessori. Eventually becoming the director and retiring. Sue was an avid reader, and loved her Tony Hillerman books. She loved her music, and dancing. Sue always had her Motown Hits, and Eagles playing. Sue absolutely loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, her sister Brenda, and Brother Tom. In her remaking days she was filled with so much when she was with her family, especially her grand babies. Sue was the matriarch of her family and her shoes can never be filled. She would want all her loved ones to remember to "Take it Easy"- The Eagles.

She is preceded in death by her husband Abel Velasquez Sr., son Randel "Ben" Velasquez, brothers: Clifton Greany Sr., Henry “Hanko” Howell and Richard Greany, sister Stacy Greany Furgeson, and parents Clifton Greany Sr. and Hazel Stoneroad.

She is survived by her children Abel Velasquez Sr. (Tina), Kelly Velasquez (Sam), Susan Velasquez, Tim Velasquez, Cheyenne Vasquez (Jon), Roman Vasquez, her sister Brenda Velasquez, and Brother Randel "Tom" Greany. As well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends she considered family.
