Sylvia attended school grades 1-8 in Mineral Wells, Texas. She later attended classes at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, TX, Angelina College in Lufkin, TX, and Cameron College in Lawton, OK. She always said she was never too old to learn something new.
Sylvia married Andrew “Dub" William Holland on August 3rd, 1952, in Mineral Wells, TX. The life they built together is nothing short of extraordinary.
She spent countless hours helping her husband in his work for the Lord. She fed thousands of people over the years and always had a spare room for travelers.
She had an excellent sense of humor and truly loved a good joke. She had a bright smile and a ready-made hug around the neck.
When she was in her 70s, she joined a gym and was the oldest member. She also went body surfing in the ocean with her grandkids at 72 years old. She was always up for anything.
Sylvia was extremely talented as an artist and poet. She had many poems published and won numerous awards for her paintings. However, some of her greatest accomplishments were being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She enjoyed painting, writing, sight-seeing, baseball, and holding her Dub’s hand.
Sylvia was lovingly known as Mika to her ten grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. She had birthday cards and gifts for each of them and worked hard at keeping their birthdays straight. Whenever she was asked how she was doing, no matter what she had going on, she would say, " The Lord keeps blessin’ me and blessin’ me.”
She was a special lady and touched many hearts throughout her 93 years. v
