Obituary for Federico A. "Fred" Velasquez
Federico "Fred" A. Velasquez, passed away November 18, 2016 in Durango, Colorado.
A rosary will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and will be followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow the services at Greenmount Cemetery.
Fred was born on August 14, 1924 in Caracas, Colorado, to Francisco and Maria Velasquez. He is one of 12 children who were raised farming in the Durango/Arboles area. Fred married Isidora "Dee" Gomez, which later ended in divorce. In 1952, Fred moved to Grand Junction and worked at St. Mary's Hospital for many years. Fred moved back to Durango in 1984.
He is survived by his children: Fred Velasquez, Doddie (John) Abeyta, Norma (Dan) Bryant, and Mick (Kevin) Velasquez; sister: Vivian (Jake) Archuleta; 4 grandchildren & 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son: Frank Velasquez.
