Ray Vierck died Sunday, November 21, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. Born and raised in southern Wisconsin, Ray attended Milton High School before enlisting to serve in Vietnam. Upon his return, he lived in Wisconsin and Illinois until the mountains called him west. Ray has made his home in Durango, CO for over 20 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, biking, kayaking, and spending time with his llamas exploring any hill or mountain to satisfy his curiosity about what could be found on the other side. Ray was a true wanderer who strove every day to ‘make it a good one.’ He will be dearly missed by the joy of his later years, his granddaughter Elle, as well as his children Zach (Diane) Vierck and Andi (Steve) Foley. Ray is also survived by his mother Hope, his sisters Carole, Lorraine, Karen, and Dawn, and his brothers David and Wayne.
On lieu of a service, family asks everyone to take 5 minutes from their day to enjoy the beauty of nature Ray loved so much. Ray requested those who are interested to listen to ‘Old Man Tree’ by OMNIA Poëtree (https://youtu.be/oc7LYS1cF4U). For anyone interested in remembering Ray with a donation, consider supporting ‘his’ mountains through the San Juan Mountain Association (https://sjma.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/sjma/donation.jsp?campaign=3&).
