Robert Wood

February 24, 1942 — June 22, 2022

Robert L. “Bobby” Wood left us June 22, 2022 following a long fight with COPD.
Bobby was born February 24, 1942 to Daniel “Nubbin” Wood and Katherine Wood in Bloomfield, New Mexico.
Bobby spent his childhood ranching and developing his horsemanship skills. Many who know Bobby have had the enjoyment of hearing many different stories of the race track, starting colts and wandering cow calf pairs. He truly enjoyed his livestock and nurtured that in raising his children.
Cowboying was always a part of who Bobby was, but he had many different callings through his life. Breaking colts, and training race horses were the beginning of his work career. He spent many hours guiding hunters and packing out wild game, though he wasn’t much of a hunter for himself. He did enjoy taking care of people and showing them the beautiful country and was always at home aboard his favorite hunting mule. Later on Bobby worked for San Juan County Road and Bridge where he ran excavation equipment until a work related injury ended that adventure. He enjoyed working at the Durango Airport for a good while. Bobby spent some time working in construction and retired from Walmart in 2010.
The real love of Bobby’s life was meeting his wife of almost 41 years, Judy (Loring) Wood. They met Mother’s Day 1981 and were married shortly after on November 7, 1981. Together Bobby and Judy raised two daughters, Aimee and Sarah. During this time Bobby and Judy stayed on the Loring family ranch in Bayfield and continued to raise a small cattle herd and their girls. He was proud of his family and the hard work he put into keeping the pastures green, the cattle fat and the horses rode. He instilled a strong work ethic in his girls and his proudest moment was becoming a Grandad to Rylie, Braxton, Jordyn and Brand.
Bobby was preceded in death by younger sister Wylonda Wood, parents Nubbin and Katie Wood and older brother Danny Wood. Bobby is survived by his wife Judy Wood, daughter Aimee Wood (Peter Lott) of Bayfield, Colorado, daughter Sarah (Twyne) Regester of Center, Colorado, granddaughters Rylie Zufelt and Jordyn Lott, grandsons Braxton Regester and Brand Regester. He also leaves behind one brother James (Sharon) Wood of Bloomfield, NM, sisters Valaria (Tom) Gravgaard also of Bloomfield, NM and Margie Morrison of Odessa, Texas, along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Bobby will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, we will keep his memory close to our hearts as we ride on with him watching over us.
Celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 30th at 1:00pm at The Happy Apple Orchard in Ignacio, Colorado with Pastor Dan Straw officiating.
