Yvonne Joline Martinez

Yvonne Joline Martinez, loving mother of three, and adoring wife to Christopher Martinez, peacefully departed this Earth on October 21, 2022, after a long battle of multiple sclerosis and heart failure. She was 65 years old. It would be wrong to say that Yvonne lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly looks like. It’s safe to say that she was a true warrior.  Yvonne is survived by her husband Christopher Martinez; mother: Cecilia Marquez of Alamosa; Children: Monique, Shawntel and Aaron Marquez; Siblings: Melvin Marquez (Sherry) of Denver, Gerald Marquez of Alamosa, Derek Marquez (Michelle) of Alamosa; grandchildren: Jared (Natelle), Allisianna, Felicity, Daniel & Asher; great-grandchildren: Seraya, Kairi, Amaya, Nathan & Keara. Preceded in death by her father, Elmer Marquez.  Yvonne was born October 4, 1957 in Denver, Colorado to Elmer and Cecilia Marquez. She welcomed her three children into this world, Monique, Shawntel, and Aaron. She moved to the San Luis Valley shortly after the birth of her second child, where she had numerous friends and family. She resided in Ignacio, Colorado in 1988 where she married the love of her life of thirty-one years. Yvonne was known to her family and friends as a jokester and storyteller. She enjoyed crafting, and cooking. If it was up to her she would never let anyone go hungry. She was known for her banana cream pies, and enchiladas. She loved listening to country, rock, and oldies, but her favorite band was the Eagles. In her final years she was surrounded by her family and amazing husband who stuck by her side no matter what obstacles came their way. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.  There will be a visitation for those that would like to say their last goodbye at Hood Mortuary, 1261 E. 3^rd Avenue, Durango, on Friday, October 28, 2022 from 5-8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Pine River Valley Church Ignacio on Saturday October 29, 2022 at 10:00 am.
